The Choral Indigenous Music Awards (CIMA) is an annual event dedicated to celebrating and preserving South Africa's rich heritage of indigenous choral music. Launched by Sounds of Azania Cultural and Creative Incubator, CIMA acknowledges the creative achievements of composers, arrangers, choral musicians, and producers who work to keep traditional South African choral styles alive. This awards ceremony is more than just an event; it's a mission to bridge cultural gaps, support artists, and inspire new generations to explore the choral music that forms an integral part of the nation's identity.
Hosted over four days, CIMA features a dynamic lineup of activities including a Community Outreach Program to revive choral music in schools, a Music Workshop/Seminar for artist development, a Gala Dinner, and the main Award Ceremony. Categories range from Best Imizwilili and Best Clap n Tap to Lifetime Achievement and Album of the Year. Strategically scheduled in May to align with Africa Month and echoing South Africa's themes of unity and resilience, CIMA offers a unique opportunity to promote social cohesion, awareness, and community engagement through music.
By recognizing and elevating the significance of choral music, CIMA plays a crucial role in preserving the past while inspiring future talent.
