The jazz division of Stellenbosch University’s music department will be featuring two South African jazz icons. Hilton Schilder, Capetonian composer, multi-instrumentalist and Cape Jazz icon and Bheki Khoza, celebrated jazz guitarist from Durban will grace the Endler stage for the division’s and SU Jazz Band’s first semester showcase on 17 May 2025.
This concert will serve as a collaborative effort between these two iconic artists and SU Jazz Band and Ramon Alexander’s Maties Jazz Society. Schilder’s music is arranged and conducted for SU Jazz Band by Pascal Haas. This concert promises to showcase the division’s strong commitment to honouring South African jazz.
The concert will also feature vocals, violin, and flute, played by students of SU Konservatorium to build bridges between classical western music and jazz. This concert is a celebration of Khoza’s and Schilder's musical legacy and will bring his sound to new dimensions.
