A documentary written and directed by Damian Sean Samuels.
NOSTALGIA. RESISTANCE. LAMENT.
Screened in the Official Selection at the Encounters SA International Documentary Film Festival 2024, the film is an intimate exploration of the nuanced history between SA and the mid-south Atlantic island of St Helena. It covers various aspects of this history, ranging from migrant nostalgia, slavery, war and colonialism.
The film starts with it’s narrator’s nostalgia for St Helena, but as the film progresses, the audience is treated to a far more complex history that spans a range of human emotion and themes related to identity, belonging and healing through the process of re connecting.
