UCT Big Band Celebrates Women

For Women’s Month, the UCT Big Band presents a concert in celebration of women with an evening full of beautiful music, from swing to soul, South African jazz to Latin-themed music. The band will perform pieces by eminent female composers including Maria Schneider, Ezperanza Spalding, Amanda Black, Kelly Bell and Violetta Parra with featured soloists including UCT alumni Bronwen Clacherty on percussion and Kelly Bell on trombone. In a cross-sectional collaboration between Opera, African music and Jazz, UCT lecturers Paulina Malefane, Nomfundo Xaluva and Amanda Tiffin on vocals, and Bronwen Clacherty on nyunga nyunga will perform “Elegy for the Forgotten Child” composed by Amanda Tiffin.
