SWART WYN

About

A co-production of Suidoosterfees and Aan Zee Theaterproducties, made possible by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NATi and Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds
With Denise Jannah, Pierre van Heerden, Frazer Barry, Deniel Barry, Charlton Davids en studente van Dance for All
The inspirational story of two South African women breaking free from poverty, oppression and institutionalised violence, fulfilling dreams that made their lives and the Boland vineyards bloom. Sybil, a successful winemaker in 2024, draws inspiration from the 17th century historical figure, Zwarte Maria Evert, the first black woman to produce wine from her own vineyard. Swart wyn is the tale of how two women managed to shape a new future for themselves in the face of challenges posed by a deeply divided country. Based on Wanneer water wyn word by Vivian Kleynhans, owner of Seven Sisters Wines in Stellenbosch.
